Kimberly Layne and Douglas Bland Jr. Dead in Tucson Car Crash

 
Tucson, AZ (August 16, 2023) — 39-year-old Kimberly Roxanne Layne and 40-year-old Douglas Keith Bland Jr. died in a speeding car accident on Monday, July 24.
 
According to Tucson Police, the accident took place on East Speedway Boulevard and North Jefferson Avenue at around 11:30 a.m.
 
Reports said a Mercedes-Benz moved westbound on Speedway faster than the 35 mph speed limit. Then it hit a Toyota Yaris that was turning left from the eastbound lanes, north onto Jefferson Avenue.
 
According to the police, both people in the Yaris died in the collision. They identified Layne as the driver and her passenger, 40-year-old Douglas Keith Bland Jr.
 
Two people in the Mercedes-Benz, both the 81-year-old driver and a passenger, suffered serious injuries. Paramedics transported them to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
 
TPD said the drivers were not under the influence.
 
According to TPD, excessive speed and failure to yield while making a left turn are the major contributing factors to the accident.
