Three Injured, Felipe Vargas Arrested in Head-On Crash in Central Park

 
CENTRAL PARK, WA (August 17, 2023) – Officers arrested 23-year-old Felipe Arellano Vargas of Tacoma for DUI following a head-on crash on Highway 12 on July 31.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened near Hill Road around 7:30 PM. Based on a report, Vargas was driving a 1990 Toyota eastbound on the highway at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.
 
At the same time, a 68-year-old Aberdeen woman was driving a 2021 Honda westbound. As the woman was taking the left turn to Hill Road, Vargas struck her vehicle head-on. The Toyota came to rest in the middle of the highway, while the Honda came to rest in the eastbound lane.
 
As a result, Vargas and his passenger, a 23-year-old Hoquiam woman, sustained injuries in the crash. Crews airlifted Vargas to Tacoma General Hospital. They took his passenger and the driver of the Honda to local hospitals for treatment.
 
Officers charged Vargas with driving under the influence and vehicular assault.
