EL PASO, TX (May 9, 2024) — A 66-year-old woman identified as Argelia Luzina Benavides died in a pedestrian accident on Friday, May 3.
 
According to the El Paso Police, the crash occurred at 1700 Northwestern Drive, near Helen of Troy Drive shortly before 6:00 a.m.
 
Police officials said the driver of a Dodge Challenger traveled northbound on the outside lane of Northwestern Drive. Then Benavides attempted to cross the street.
 
Officials said Benavides tried to cross at an undesignated area. Then she failed to yield the right of the way to the vehicle.
 
The Challenger was unable to stop and struck the woman.
 
Emergency responders brought Benavides to the hospital where she died.
 
The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
 
This incident is the 21st traffic-related death this 2024.
