Daryl Taylor Fatally Struck in Lufkin Hit-and-Run Accident

 
LUFKIN, TX (August 16, 2023) — Authorities identified the victim of a hit-and-run crash on Sunday as 46-year-old Daryl Taylor of Lufkin on Sunday, July 30.
 
According to Lufkin Police, the fatal accident happened just after 6:00 a.m. on the 900 block of Abney Avenue near Williams Street, just north of downtown.
 
Police said Taylor rode a bicycle westbound on Abney. Then a black SUV moving at a high rate of speed crossed all three lanes and struck him. The driver reportedly did not stop and then continued westbound on Abney Avenue.
 
Paramedics transported the Taylor by ambulance to a local hospital where medical officers pronounced him dead.
 
Meanwhile, police said Monday that a tip on Crime Stoppers tip led them to the suspect’s vehicle. It has damage that matched with the deadly incident. Officers seized the vehicle and said it will be used as evidence in the case.
 
Police said the owner of the vehicle informed the officers that they will only speak to them in the presence of their attorney.
