Wayland Claxton Struck, Killed by Vehicle while Fixing Boat in Amarillo
AMARILLO, TX (May 17, 2023) – The Amarillo Police Department identified 57-year-old Wayland Jay Claxton who died in a pedestrian accident on Buccola Avenue on May 14.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Nick Street around 7:56 PM. Based on a report, Claxton, a Randall County Sergeant, was working on his boat at the time of the crash.
Due to unknown reasons, a 19-year-old woman driving a silver SUV hit the boat. The crash trapped Claxton under the boat trailer.
As a result, the victim sustained grave injuries and died in the incident.
Currently, the crash is under investigation by the Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit.
