85-Year-Old James Flanagan Identified in Fatal Upshur County Crash on Highway 271

 
UPSHUR COUNTY, TX (November 1, 2022) – Police identified 85-year-old James Flanagan of Longview as the victim who died in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 271 on October 28.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened just four miles north of Gilmer.
 
Based on a report, Flanagan stopped his GMC on the shoulder of the highway to make a U-turn illegally. At that point, a 2021 Kenworth trailer was heading south on the highway. At the same time, a Ford Taurus was moving north.
 
As Flanagan stopped the truck, it was hit by the trailer. Subsequently, the truck also collided with the Taurus and a 2019 Western Star trailer that was parked in the lanes.
 
As a result, Flanagan died in the incident.
 
The trailer driver, 42-year-old Rafael Flores of Tyler and the Taurus driver, 44-year-old Joshua J. Harms of El Paso were not hurt.
 
As of now, officials are still investigating this incident.
