Wrong-Way Driver Involved in Fatal Crash on 5 Freeway at Powell Road in Castle Rock

 
CASTLE ROCK, WA (June 28, 2023) – Officers confirmed that two drivers died in a wrong-way crash on 5 Freeway on June 16.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened just south of the Powell Road overpass around 6:00 AM. Based on a report, a 22-year-old man was driving a 2006 Ford Ranger south in the northbound lanes of the highway prior to the crash.
 
Subsequently, his vehicle collided with a red Ford Escape of a 41-year-old man from Tigard, Oregon. A 2014 silver Subaru Impreza then struck the Escape while a 1996 black Honda Accord hit debris from the crash.
 
As a result, both drivers of the Ranger and the Escape suffered grave injuries and died in the incident. Officials did not yet release their names, pending kin notification.
 
The Subaru Impreza driver, 22 year-old Kaulin W. Froebe of Klamath Falls, Oregon, was transported to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center as a precaution.
 
At this point, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
