Kathleen Dossey Dead in Car Crash on Highway 70 near Mile Marker 288
HALE COUNTY, TX (September 19, 2024) — A 76-year-old Olton woman, Kathleen Ruth Dossey, died in an accident on Thursday, September 12.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at around 8:40 a.m. on Highway 70 near mile marker 288 in Hale County.
Texas DPS said Dossey drove a 2016 Mazda CX5 west on Highway 70. At the same time, a tractor-trailer moved east on Highway 70, towards the same location.
That is when Dossey went into the eastbound lanes and the path of the tractor-trailer. Then the tractor-trailer driven by 66-year-old Darko Festin, attempted to avoid the vehicle. However, both vehicles collided in the roadway.
First responders pronounced Dosey dead due to sustained injuries in the crash. DPS said she did not wear a seatbelt.
Meanwhile, Festin received treatment and was later released from the scene.
The weather and road conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash.
Authorities continue to look for the contributing factors as they investigate the accident.
