Mark McGowan Killed in Ponta Pedestrian Accident on Highway 110

 
CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (February 28, 2024) — A 38-year-old Jacksonville man identified as Mark McGowan died in a pedestrian accident on Thursday, February 15.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident took place on Highway 110, near Ponta at around 10:15 p.m.
 
DPS reports a pickup towing a trailer, driven by 24-year-old Harrison Carpenter, of Bryan, traveled north on Highway 110. At the same time, McGowan walked south on Highway 110 in the northbound lane. Then the truck hit McGowan.
 
Responding officers pronounced McGowan dead at the scene. Carpenter did not sustain any injuries.
 
There are no reports whether speed and/or impairment contributed as a factor in the crash.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the collision.
