Damian Sanchez-Balderas Arrested after Fatal DUI Accident in Aurora

 
AURORA, CO (February 28, 2024) — Authorities arrested 19-year-old Damian Sanchez-Balderas, of Denver, after a fatal DUI crash on Sunday, February 18.
 
According to the Aurora Police Department, the accident took place at the intersection of East Alameda Avenue and South Potomac Street at around 8:40 p.m.
 
Investigators found out Sanchez-Balderas drove an Infiniti sedan and ran a red light while traveling east on Alameda Avenue. Then it crashed with a Ford Focus, making a protected left turn south onto Potomac.
 
The male driver of the Ford did not suffer any injuries. However, the impact ejected his female passenger from the vehicle and died at the scene. Sanchez-Balderas lost control of his car after the crash. After that, the vehicle struck a signal pole at the southeast corner of the intersection.
 
The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the deceased victim pending notification of loved ones.
 
Authorities transported Sanchez-Balderas to a local hospital with minor injuries. After that, they arrested him. He faces charges of vehicular homicide, DUI, reckless driving, and driving with a revoked license as a habitual traffic offender.
