Kylie Folmar and Haleigh Matchett Die in Van Vleck Car Accident
VAN VLECK, TX (September 11, 2024) — 19-year-old Kylie Folmar and 17-year-old Haleigh Matchett died in a car crash on Sunday, September 1.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Stephen Woodard, the accident happened at around 12:35 a.m. on Highway 35.
Woodard said a 2016 BMW driven by 19-year-old Kanye Williams, of Bay City, traveled at a high rate of speed east on Highway 35. Then the driver crashed with a 1998 Cadillac. After that, the BMW skidded and hit a power pole, breaking the pole.
As the car caught fire, Williams fled the scene. He left the two passengers trapped inside later identified as Folmar and Matchett. A witness tried to remove the girls from the vehicle but was unsuccessful. Folmar and Matchett both died at the scene.
On Wednesday, officers arrested Williams. He now faces two second-degree felony charges for collisions involving death.
After that, they booked Williams into Matagorda County Jail. Records show that Williams had three outstanding traffic warrants. It is for failure to maintain financial responsibility, registration violation, and failure to appear in court.
