Failure to Defrost Windows Causes Car Crash on 5 Freeway in Tacoma

TACOMA, WA (February 7, 2023) – Officers recorded injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on northbound 5 Freeway on February 2.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened on the on-ramp to 56th Street shortly after 8:00 AM. Based on a report, a driver did not properly defrost their windshield and did not see stopped traffic at the metered on-ramp.

Subsequently, the driver rear-ended a car, which started a chain reaction involving two more vehicles.

As a result, authorities reported minor injuries in the incident.

The crash fully blocked the ramp. As of now, the investigation into the case remains ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.

Improperly defrosting, or scraping snow off a windshield can lead to a multi-vehicle crash. Thus, always keep windows clean to avoid getting hurt or hurting other people. In addition, follow road regulations at all times.
