William Alexander Fatally Struck in Tucson Pedestrian Accident

 
TUCSON, AZ (April 23, 2024) — A man identified as William Ray Alexander died in a pedestrian accident on Wednesday, April 10.
 
According to the Tucson Police Department, the accident took place near Alvernon Way and 25th Street.
 
During the investigation, detectives found out that Alexander tried to cross South Alvernon Way from west to east. Then a Ford F-150 traveling southbound on South Alvernon Way in the median lane struck him.
 
The TPD said Alexander died at the scene.
 
An officer from the Impaired Driver Enforcement Unit arrived at the scene. They evaluated the adult male driver of the vehicle. They determined he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash.
 
Authorities said Alexander was not in a marked or unmarked crosswalk when the collision occurred. In addition, he was around 150 feet north of a marked crosswalk with a High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk beacon.
 
Tucson Police said failure to use the dedicated pedestrian crossing traffic control devices and mid-block crossing by Alexander are major contributing factors to the accident.
 
The collision is still under investigation. At this time, there are no issued charges or citations.
