Alberto Lopez Detained after Fatal Car Accident in Palm Desert
PALM DESERT, CA (January 17, 2022) – Police arrested 26-year-old Alberto Lopez of Coachella following a fatal crash on Country Club Drive on January 13.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at Cook Street around 2:30 AM. Based on a report, Lopez was driving a burgundy Dodge Durango eastbound on Country Club at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.
Subsequently, he collided into the rear of a stopped red Hyundai Elantra.
As a result, the Riverside County Fire Authority confirmed that the sole occupant of the Hyundai died in the incident.
Police said they arrested Lopez after allegedly showing signs of impairment. Records indicated that he had prior convictions for driving under the influence.
