Injury Reported in Garden Grove DUI Crash on 22 Freeway

GARDEN GROVE, CA (December 14, 2022) — A California Highway Patrol officer suffered injuries while police arrested Krystal Amy Ramos in a suspected DUI crash on 22 Freeway on Sunday night, December 4.

The collision involved a patrol vehicle, a Chevrolet Tahoe and a white Porsche Cayenne, according to the Orange County Fire Authority which received several calls of alert at around 8:45 p.m.

Authorities said the CHP officer pulled over the freeway to help the Porsche that had mechanical issues when the Chevrolet, driven by 36-year-old Ramos who had a boy and a girl on board, slammed into the rear end of the patrol vehicle and Porsche.

This left the officer trapped inside the patrol vehicle as respondents rescued the six-year veteran of the CHP with the “Jaws of Life”.

The officer then received transportation to the Irvine Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries.

Following a field sobriety test, officials then arrested Ramos on suspicion of driving under the influence before being booked on suspicion of felony DUI and child endangerment.

The boy and girl, both of whom were passengers in the Tahoe, were uninjured. After that, officials released two children to a family member.

The crash is still under investigation.

To that end, the CHP is encouraging anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 714-892-4426.
