One Killed in Multi-Vehicle Accident on 5 Freeway in Arlington

 
ARLINGTON, WA (April 9, 2024) — One person died and three others were injured in a multi-vehicle accident on 5 Freeway on Monday, April 1.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, a 43-year-old Arlington man drove south in the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway near 236th Street Northeast. Then his car crashed into two other vehicles at about 1:20 p.m.
 
WSP said paramedics brought the wrong-way driver to Providence Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
 
Emergency responders also transported three other people to Providence for injuries. One person involved in the incident was not hurt.
 
According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the crash caused traffic to back up at least 8 miles at around 4:0 p.m. before crews cleared the scene.
 
WSP said officers diverted the traffic to Highway 530.
