Woman Dies, Two Others Suffer Injuries After Off-Road Vehicle Crash on Better Sand Dunes Area

 
JOHNSON VALLEY, CA (February 14, 2023) — A woman died while two other people sustained injuries after an off-road vehicle crash in the Better Sand Dunes area on Tuesday evening, January 31.

The fatal incident, which involved a Polaris RZR, occurred at around 5:20 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the Polaris, operated by a 30-year-old driver who had a front and rear passengers, traveled northbound in the off-highway vehicle area. It crested a hill before rolling over multiple times.

The accident left the rear passenger, a 28-year-old woman from Yucaipa, with major injuries. She received transportation via airlift to a nearby Morongo Basin Ambulance, where she later died.

The 24-year-old front passenger also suffered major injuries while the driver of the Polaris sustained moderate ones.

Officials transported the survivors to the Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment. All of the occupants of the Polaris were wearing harnesses and helmets during the ride.

The cause and factors behind the crash remain under investigation. No additional information is released at this time.
