Woman Dies in Tucson Pedestrian Accident on West Irvington Road

TUCSON, AZ (April 3, 2024) — A 48-year-old woman died in a pedestrian accident on West Irvington Road on Thursday, March 28.

According to the Tucson Police Department, the incident occurred before 9:00 p.m. near the Laos Transit Center, located at West Irvington Road near South 9th Avenue.

During the investigation, authorities found out that the pedestrian tried to cross Irvington Road from north to south. Then a westbound 2020 Dodge Ram struck her.

When authorities arrived at the area, they pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.  Her identity is not yet available pending family notification.

TPD said the pedestrian was in an unmarked crosswalk on the west side of the intersection. The east side of the intersection contains a HAWK beacon and a marked crosswalk, which she did not use.

Witnesses said the female pedestrian ran into and across the roadway.

Police described the driver of the Ram as a 31-year-old woman. She instantly stopped after the accident and cooperated with the investigation. She was not intoxicated.

Detectives believe that the pedestrian’s unsafe movement into the roadway and failure to use traffic control devices contributed as major factors in the incident.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
