Fatal Wrong-Way Accident on Highway 85 in Buckeye

 
BUCKEYE, AZ (April 3, 2024) — One person died and five others sustained injuries in a wrong-way crash on Highway 85 on Wednesday, March 27.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the incident happened shortly before 10:00 p.m. on Highway 85 near milepost 147, a few miles south of Buckeye.
 
Troopers said the driver was in a black sedan. Then their vehicle crashed into another car with five passengers, three of whom were children.
 
The wrong-way driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics transported three of those in the other vehicle to the hospital with minor injuries.
 
Authorities closed Highway 85 for several hours while officers conducted an investigation.
 
At this time, it is not yet determined what factors caused the crash.
