Motorcyclist Vernon Barns Killed after Crash with 18-Wheeler Crash in Winters

 
WINTERS, TX (June 8, 2023) – Officials identified 66-year-old Vernon Russel Barnes of Bradshaw who died in a motorcycle and 18-wheeler crash on Highway 83 on June 1.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened near FM-1086 shortly before 3:00 PM. Based on a report, Barnes was driving a 2004 Harley-Davidson, going north on the highway prior to the crash.
 
At the same time, Jerry Laverne Connor was driving a 2012 Peterbilt truck pulling a flatbed trailer also om the northbound side of the road. Subsequently, Barnes slowly made a left-hand turn from the highway while Connor drove into the southbound lane to pass.
 
Barnes then struck the passing truck and trailer.
 
As a result, Barnes sustained major injuries in the incident. Crews transported him to Hendrick Medical Center-North in Abilene, where he died about two hours later.
 
Connor was not hurt in the incident.
 
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
