CORSICANA, TX (March 21, 2023) – Officers identified 72-year-old Van Michael Wallace of Corsicana as the victim who died in a multi-vehicle crash on 45 Freeway on March 16.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened in the 3500 block of 45 Freeway. Based on a report, Wallace was traveling south on the road in a Chevrolet pickup prior to the crash.

As he stopped to make a left turn into a private drive, 18-year-old Marvin David Hernandez of Rice failed to control his speed and struck his rear.

Subsequently, the impact pushed Wallace’s pickup into the northbound lanes of the freeway where a Ford F-450 and a Chevrolet Malibu struck it. Debris from the crash hit a Dodge Grand Caravan traveling north.

As a result, Wallace suffered grave injuries and died at the scene.

Crews identified 61-year-old Ana Maria Bustamante and 65-year-old Joaquin Bustamante as the victims who suffered non-incapacitating injuries. They transported them to Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas for treatment.

As of now, the case remains under investigation.
