Fatal Houston DUI Crash on Bellfort Avenue

 
HOUSTON, TX (February 15, 2023) – Two passengers died following a DUI crash on Bellfort Avenue on Thursday evening, February 9.

According to the Houston Police Department, the fatal crash happened around 6:30 p.m. near Highway 288. Initial investigation revealed that an SUV driving at 70 mph in a 35 mph zone struck a forklift that was crossing the road.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office stated that the crash into the forklift had a strong impact, similar to hitting a brick wall. Authorities also added that the driver confessed to drinking before driving the vehicle.

Two occupants of the vehicle died at the scene, police said.

The forklift operator did not sustain injuries from the crash.

Furthermore, the SUV driver may face charges on two counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault.

The district attorney’s office will also look into the bar where the driver had been drinking to investigate whether the establishment will be held liable.
