ELK GROVE, CA (October 4, 2022) – Police confirmed two deaths and injuries in a rollover crash on 5 Freeway on September 20.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at Hood Franklin Road just after midnight. Based on a report, a vehicle was traveling northbound on the freeway when it hit the rumble strip.
 
Subsequently, CHP said the driver overcorrected and the car lost traction on the wet road, swerving into the east shoulder and rolling over several times. Three of the four people in the car were ejected.
 
As a result, a passenger in the backseat died at dead at the scene. Emergency crews transported the driver to a local hospital, where that victim also died. Officials did not yet release their names, pending kin notification.
 
In addition, two other passengers suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
 
Officers said no one was wearing seatbelts, and alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash. However, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
