Fatal Single Car Accident on Highway 61 in Sterling

 
STERLING, CO (July 16, 2023) – Officials confirmed that two people died in an accident on Highway 61 on July 4.
 
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the collision happened at milepost 61 just before 6:00 AM. Based on a report, the victims were in a Chevrolet Silverado that was going north on the highway prior to the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, the Chevy veered into the southbound lanes, corrected to the right and traveled off the east edge of the road. Subsequently, the vehicle crossed to the left and exited the roadway, rolling over and coming to arrest on its top in a field.
 
As a result, a 49-year-old man and a 26-year-old man died at the scene. Officials did not yet release their names, pending kin notification.
 
The 18-year-old Chevy driver from Rio Grande City suffered serious injuries in the crash. Another 18-year-old man also suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.
 
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
