Two Dead after 18-Wheeler Accident on Highway 36

 
TEMPLE, TX (May 8, 2024) — One person died following a semi-truck accident on Highway 36 on Monday, April 22.
 
According to the Temple Police Department, the crash involving a 217-foot-long trailer carrying an oversized load occurred on Highway 36 near Highway 317 at around 11:20 a.m.
 
When crews arrived at the area, they discovered an oversized load, weighing 350,000 pounds, had come off its trailer. It pinned a car underneath, the Temple Fire and Rescue said.
 
There were three people inside the pinned vehicle. Temple Fire and Rescue said two people suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, officers freed the third person from the vehicle and then airlifted the person to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
 
Temple Fire confirmed that the victims were not part of the crew that was transporting the large load.
 
Temple Fire and Rescue said that it took more than four hours to safely extricate the driver from the vehicle.
 
Police have not released the cause of the crash. However, they said multiple vehicles were part of the collision.
