Camilo Hernandez-Mendoza Dead and Jorge Piñon Arrested after Brenham Hit-and-Run

 
BRENHAM, TX (May 8, 2024) — A 20-year-old Brenham man, Camilo Hernandez-Mendoza, died in a hit-and-run on Saturday, April 27.
 
According to the Brenham police, the accident took place near the intersection of Highway 36 South and Salem Road just before 3:00 a.m.
 
The preliminary investigation determined a vehicle struck Hernandez-Mendoza in the area. Then the vehicle fled from the scene. Witnesses stopped when noticed the victim and called authorities.
 
Washington County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Duane Houston pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
 
The Brenham Police Criminal Investigation Division also arrived at the area. They were able to identify and then locate the suspect’s vehicle.
 
After that, investigators secured search and arrest warrants for the suspect. They later identified him as 42-year-old Jorge Piñon of Brenham.
 
Police discovered Piñon at about 8:15 p.m. Saturday at an area hotel. They then arrested him for Failure to Render Aid and a second-degree felony.
 
As of writing, Piñon is still in custody at the Washington County Jail.
