Two Dead, Another Hospitalized after Head-On Crash on Highway 179

 
SEDONA, AZ (September 22, 2023) — Two people died and a third person sustained injuries after a head-on accident on Highway 179.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred on Highway 179 shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 3.
 
Authorities believe a vehicle traveled northbound on the roadway. Then it drifted over the center lane. After that, it hit a second vehicle head-on in the southbound lane.
 
Officers pronounced the drivers of both vehicles dead at the scene. They have not released their identities pending notification of loved ones.
 
Paramedics transported a passenger in the southbound vehicle with minor injuries to the Verde Valley Medical Center in Cottonwood.
 
DPS believes impairment was a factor in the fatal incident.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
