Reckless Driver Involved in Fatal Douglas Crash on 15th Street

DOUGLAS, AZ (September 14, 2023) – The Douglas Police Department confirmed that three people died in a crash on 15th Street on September 7.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at A Avenue. Based on a report, a vehicle was traveling into the city limits from Highway 80 at an estimated speed of 80 MPH prior to the crash.

An officer did not conduct a traffic stop or pursue the vehicle due to distance from the patrol vehicle. Subsequently, the vehicle hit another car at the 15th Street and A Avenue intersection. Police said the impact ejected several people from the reckless driver’s vehicle.

As a result, three of the victims suffered grave injuries and died in the incident. Officials did not yet release the victims’ names, pending kin notification. Police said two of the individuals who died were undocumented migrants.

There were two more individuals in the vehicle who were also undocumented migrants. Crews took them to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the other car was also hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
