Six WSDOT Workers Hospitalized after DUI Crash on 5 Freeway

VANCOUVER, WA (January 25, 2024) — Six members of WSDOT work crew sustained injuries in a DUI accident on 5 Freeway on Saturday, January 20.

According to Washington Department of Transportation, the crash happened on 5 Freeway at about 9:40 p.m.

WSDOT said the maintenance team was part of a mobile operation to fix potholes within the vicinity. Then a drunk driver struck them in the road.

The driver of the vehicle initially struck a guardrail near the work crew. The collision caused a chain-reaction crash by then hitting a WSDOT truck, which subsequently struck another work truck.

Washington State Patrol Troopers arrested the driver on suspicion of vehicular assault and DUI. The six workers have already been released from the hospital.

The WSDOT used the crash as a reminder for all motorists. On a social media post, they urged them to do their part to keep road workers safe.
