19-Year-Old and Wrong-Way Driver Shawn Oberbeck Dies in Car Crash in SeaTac
SEATAC, WA (September 29, 2022) – Police confirmed the death of 46-year-old Shawn Oberbeck and a 19-year-old woman in a crash on 5 Freeway.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened near the South 188th Street on-ramp around 11:30 PM on September 22.
Based on a report, Oberbeck was going the wrong way in the northbound lanes in the freeway prior to the crash. Subsequently, he crashed into another car head-on, causing that vehicle to burst into flames.
As a result, the driver of the other car – a 19-year-old Seattle woman – died in the incident.
In addition, paramedics transported Oberbeck to the hospital, where he later died.
The fiery crashed closed all lanes in the freeway. As of now, an investigation into the case is still ongoing.
