Shaun Lakey Involved in Fatal DUI Crash on Lakewood Drive in Lakewood

 
LAKEWOOD, WA (October 2, 2023) – The Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney charged Shaun Duane Lakey with two counts of vehicular homicide and assault after a fatal crash on Lakewood Drive on September 22.
 
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision happened in the 7500 block of the road around 10:00 PM. Based on a report, Lakey was speeding when he drove into the northbound lanes and ran a red light at an intersection.
 
Subsequently, his vehicle collided with another car carrying a couple and their two children.
 
As a result, Lakey and all occupants of the other car sustained injuries in the incident. Emergency crews took them to the hospital, where the woman and one of the children died. Officials did not yet release their names, pending kin notification.
 
Lakewood police said speed and intoxication were factors in the crash. A responding officer said Lakey appeared to be in a daze and was hallucinating.
 
Officers charged Lakey with two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault, holding him on $200,000 bail.
 
At this point, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
