Sergio Quintero Killed, Five Others Hurt in Two-Vehicle Crash on 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street

 
PHOENIX, AZ (August 25, 2023) — A 20-year-old man, identified as Sergio De Le Torre Quintero, died in a crash on Sunday, August 13.
 
According to the Phoenix police, the accident took place on 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street at about 5:15 a.m.
 
Officers believe De Le Torre Quintero drove west on Van Buren Street. Then he ran the red light on 35th Avenue. After that, he struck the other vehicle, which was traveling north.
 
When the first responders arrived, they discovered the two vehicles involved in the incident. One of the vehicles overturned. They extricated two people out of their vehicles.
 
Paramedics pronounced De Le Torre Quintero dead at the scene.
 
They also transported five other people to the hospital. Phoenix fire officials said one of them was a teenage girl. In addition, officers said one of the injured adults sustained life-threatening injuries.
 
Authorities closed the intersection for several hours as police conducted an on-scene investigation.
 
Officers believe speed and impairment are factors in the incident.
 
Phoenix police continue to investigate the crash.
