Derek Duplichan Dies in Moses Lake Accident on 90 Freeway

 
MOSES LAKE, WA (August 25, 2023) — A 30-year-old Warden man, identified as Derek Duplichan, died in a three-car crash Wednesday, August 9.
 
According to a Washington State Patrol, Duplichan drove a 2001 Acura MDX east on the 90 Freeway. Then he tried to pass a 2014 Chevrolet Captiva moving in the same direction. After that, Duplichan returned to his original lane and hit the Captiva. The impact caused both vehicles to lose control.
 
The Captiva went over the median into westbound lanes. It ended up crashing into a 2022 Toyota Highlander, which then struck a fence on the westbound shoulder.
 
WSP said Duplichan succumbed to his injuries and died at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington. Paramedics transported his passenger, 22-year-old Ritzville resident Casandra Rand, to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake.
 
Medics also rushed Captiva’s driver, 34-year-old Brent Palmen as well as his three passengers, 29-year-old Jasie Foryan, a 7-year-old girl, and a 5-year-old girl to a medical center. All four are Moses Lake residents.
 
Emergency responders also transported the driver of the Highlander, 54-year-old Kellie Taylor, of Snohomish, Washington, to Samaritan Hospital. Her two passengers were not hurt.
 
WSP said reckless driving is the cause of the collision.
