James Carter Detained for DUI, Larry Wheet Dies in Phoenix Pedestrian Accident

 
PHOENIX, AZ (August 25, 2023) — Officials identified 56-year-old Larry Wheet dead after a DUI pedestrian accident on Sunday, August 13.
 
According to Phoenix Police, the crash occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Sunday on 75th Avenue near Thomas Road.
 
When officers arrived, they discovered Wheet with serious injuries. They said a vehicle struck Wheet as he crossed midblock.

Paramedics transported Wheet to a hospital where he later died of sustained injuries.
 
The driver of the involved vehicle, 40-year-old James Carter, remained at the scene. Police said he showed signs of intoxication, and they processed him for DUI.
 
There were four other people, two of which were young children, in the car with Carter. As a result, officers booked Carter into jail for aggravated DUI.
