Scott Burgess Identified in Fatal Semi-Truck Accident in Ector County
ECTOR COUNTY, TX (November 7, 2024) – Authorities identified 68-year-old Scott Allen Burgess of Shelby, North Carolina who died in an accident on 20 Freeway on October 27.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened near mile marker 104 around 11:00 AM. Based on a report, Burgess was a passenger in a 2024 International Truck traveling behind a 2022 Freightliner on the westbound side of the freeway.
Due to unknown reasons, the Freightliner slowed down to avoid debris in the roadway. This is when the 2024 International truck experienced a blowout in its front right tire. The international truck then struck the 2022 Freightliner truck’s trailer.
As a result, Burgess suffered grave injuries and died in the incident. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
Crews took the driver of the International truck, 60-year-old Gregory Lee Dills of North Carolina, to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa in stable condition.
The driver of the Freightliner, 66-year-old John Collingsworth Jr. of Canton, did not sustain any injuries.
As of now, an investigation into the case is ongoing. In addition, no other details are available.
