Sandy Almanza Killed after Multi-Vehicle Accident on 10 Freeway

 
EL PASO, TX (August 22, 2024) — A 49-year-old El Paso woman identified as Sandy Almanza died in a multi-vehicle accident on Sunday, August 4.
 
According to the El Paso Police Department, the accident happened at around 1:20 a.m. on the 10 Freeway near Don Haskins Drive. It is in the area between Loop 375 and Zaragoza Road.
 
A police news release said Almanza drove a silver 2022 Honda Accord westbound on the 10 Freeway. At the same time, a white 2020 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 25-year-old Jorge Alexis Gamboa, of El Paso, was also on the same highway. Then both vehicles moved into the same lane and crashed.
 
The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to spin out of control. As a result, the Accord collided with the back of a semi-truck stopped on the right emergency lane of 10 Freeway West.
 
Almanza suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.
 
Authorities The truck driver was identified by police as 43-year-old Mustapha Saddiqi, of Forney, Texas.
 
According to the EPPD, the main contributing factors in this crash are alcohol, speed, and unsafe lane change.
 
EPPD said the accident is the 38th traffic-related death this 2024.
