Man Struck and Killed in Everett Pedestrian Accident on 5 Freeway

 
EVERETT, WA (August 22, 2024) — A man sustained fatal injuries in a pedestrian accident on the 5 Freeway on Thursday, August 8.
 
According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding, the accident took place on the 5 Freeway near Highway 526 at around 5:29 a.m.
 
A WSP release said the pedestrian fell from the Highway 526 overpass onto the southbound lanes of 5 Freeway. Then multiple vehicles struck the pedestrian.
 
Officers only identified the pedestrian as a 52-year-old man from Mukilteo. He died at the scene.
 
The Washington State Department of Transportation said that the incident caused backups of up to 10 miles, as officials closed the roadway for four and a half hours. Additionally, there were also backups on Highway 2, Highway 9, and Highway 204.
 
All closed lanes of 5 Freeway have been reopened.
 
WSP Troopers continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
