Moped Rider Killed in Hit-and-Run on South Circle Drive and Monterey Road

 
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (August 22, 2024) — A rider on a moped died in a hit-and-run on South Circle Drive on Monday, August 5.
 
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the accident took place on South Circle Drive and Monterey Road shortly after midnight Monday.
 
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the rider in the middle of the street and the involved driver left the area. Despite life-saving efforts, the rider succumbed to sustained injuries at the scene.
 
Police said their only information about the suspect is that they drove a light-colored pickup truck. In addition, they said the truck sustained front-end damage.
 
At one point, officers thought they may have found the suspect when a pickup sped off from the area. It led to a short chase that ended when the driver lost control and crashed into a ditch.
 
WSP troopers determined the driver was not involved in the hit-and-run. However, the driver fled because they had active arrest warrants. That driver also fled the scene.
