PHOENIX, AZ (January 27, 2025) — Samuel Webster, a rideshare driver, died after his passenger ran him over on Tuesday, January 21.
 
According to the Phoenix police, the incident occurred at 5:15 p.m. near 40th Street and Baseline Road.
 
Investigators said 74-year-old Webster, a medical rideshare driver, was transporting 31-year-old Jordan Spalding for an appointment. Witnesses reported that the two argued before both exited the car. After that, Spalding moved to the driver’s seat. Then she intentionally ran over Webster multiple times.
 
When officers arrived, they found Webster with severe injuries. Paramedics then brought him to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
 
Spalding initially claimed self-defense, alleging Webster had tried to assault her. However, medical examinations found no signs of injury. Additionally, her account conflicted with witness reports and video evidence. She later admitted to self-medicating with fentanyl instead of taking her prescribed medication.
 
Officials then arrested Spalding and charged her with second-degree murder.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
