Samuel Shoels Killed after Solo-Car Crash in Armstrong County

 
ARMSTRONG COUNTY, TX (November 26, 2023) — A Clarendon man, 77-year-old Samuel Kinley Shoels, died in a solo car accident on Wednesday, November 15.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at about 10:15 p.m. on Highway 287 near mile marker 158.
 
Reports said that Shoels and 61-year-old Ella Bryley, also of Clarendon, traveled north on Highway 287 in a 2007 Buick LeSabre.
 
The car then went off the roadway and through a grassy bar ditch. After that, it went into a side skid as it went into the pavement in the north rest area. Lastly, the vehicle crashed with a tree before it came to a stop in the bar ditch.
 
Officials say Shoels died on the scene due to sustained injuries from the incident.
 
Paramedics rushed Bryley to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo by ambulance services out of Clarendon for treatment of injuries.
 
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
