Samuel Oatman Identified in Fatal Van Zandt County Car Accident

 
VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (August 17, 2023) – Officials identified 48-year-old Samuel Todd Oatman who died in a crash on Highway 19 on August 1.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened about four miles south of Canton around 3:56 PM. Based on a report, Oatman was driving a 2005 Volkswagen GLI north on the highway prior to the crash.
 
At the same time, a 2005 GMC Yukon was traveling behind the Volkswagen. When Oatman slowed down to make a left turn, the GMC failed to control its speed and struck the rear of his Volkswagen. Subsequently, both vehicles went off the road and landed in the nearby ditch.
 
As a result, Oatman suffered grave injuries and died at the Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Canton.
 
Emergency crews also transported his passenger to the hospital for treatment.
 
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
