SINTON, TX (June 13, 2024) — Salma Aktar, Saiful Amin, and their 11-month-old son sustained injuries in a two-car crash on Monday, May 27.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the family drove north on Highway 89 at about 10:00 a.m.
 
A release from DPS said the vehicle the family was in failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign. Then an F-150 hit them as they turned into a crossover to go into the Highway 77 South entrance ramp.
 
Texas DPS said 33-year-old Aktar and her son were trapped in the back seat of an Elantra. Then Sinton EMS extricated them from the car and transported them to Calallen Hospital.
 
At the same time, paramedics also brought the father of the child to Spohn Shoreline for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The Sheriff Oscar Rivera identified him as 32-year-old Amin.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics also brought the 31-year-old driver of the Ford F-150, John Honeycutt, of Sinton, to Spohn Shoreline for injuries sustained in the crash.
 
In an update on Monday, loved ones transferred Aktar and her 11-month-old son to University Hospital in San Antonio, where she is from. They are both in critical condition.
