WELLS, NV (April 30, 2024) — Two Southern Californians, Rueben Rojas and Maria Rojas, died in a head-on accident on Saturday, April 6.
 
According to the Nevada State Police, the accident happened on Highway 93, about 25 miles south of Wells at about 10:30 a.m.
 
The Nevada State Police said a 2017 Toyota traveled south in Elko County. Then it crossed the yellow line on Highway 93 and into the path of a 2016 Freightliner.
 
The tractor-trailer attempted to avoid the Toyota. However, they still crashed head-on and came to a stop on the dirt shoulder.
 
Both occupants of the Toyota died at the scene. Authorities identified 70-year-old Rueben Rojas as the driver of the Toyota and 66-year-old Maria Rojas as the passenger. Both were residents of Murrieta, California.
