SURPRISE, AZ (April 30, 2024) – Officials identified 90-year-old Joseph Akiki who died in a pedestrian accident on North Verde Vista Drive on April 20.
 
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Hearn Road just after 8:00 AM. Based on a report, a vehicle hit the victim in the lanes.
 
It was not clear if Akiki was on a crosswalk at the time of the accident.
 
As a result, he suffered grave injuries and died in the incident.
 
Crews closed North Verde Vista Drive in both directions as they worked to clear the scene.
