Rohit Rekhi Identified in Fatal Accident on 5 Freeway in Tehama County
TEHAMA COUNTY, CA (December 30, 2022) – Officials identified 27-year-old Rohit Rekhi of Woodland as the victim who was run over by a semi-truck on 5 Freeway on December 24.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at the Lt. John C. Helmick Rest Area around 2:11 PM.
Based on a report, a semi-truck was driving southbound within the rest area parking lot at an estimated speed of 5 miles per hour. Due to unknown reasons, Rekhi exited the vehicle via the right front door while the semi was still in motion. Subsequently, the right rear tire of the semi ran him over.
As a result, emergency crews pronounced Rehki deceased at the scene.
The CHP said impairment is not a factor. As of now, the collision is under investigation.
