Roberto Fernandez Struck and Killed by Hit-and-Run Drivers in Horizon City

 
HORIZON CITY, TX (October 3, 2023) – The Horizon Police Department identified 44-year-old Roberto Antonio Fernandez who died in a hit-and-run on Horizon Boulevard on September 25.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident happened near Darrington Road. Based on a report, Fernandez was riding a bicycle near the intersection at the time of the crash.
 
Due to unknown reasons, HPD officers said 25-year-old Sofia Maribel Gonzalez and 79-year-old Benito Cabrera Licona hit the victim. Both drivers then left the scene after running over him. Police claimed both didn’t offer the victim any help and didn’t contact authorities.
 
As a result, Fernandez sustained grave injuries and died at the scene.
 
Officers later found, arrested and booked Gonzalez and Licona into the El Paso County Detention Facility on criminal charges for collision involving serious bodily injury or death with a $100,000 bond.
 
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
