Rigoberto Alvarez-Ortega Struck and Killed by 82-Year-Old Billy Jack Leach on Highway 158 in Runnels County

 
RUNNELS COUNTY, TX (June 19, 2023) – Officials identified 57-year-old Rigoberto Alvarez-Ortega of San Antonio who died in a pedestrian accident on Highway 158 on June 12.
 
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision happened 158 about seven miles north of Ballinger around 9:50 PM. Based on a report, Alvarez-Ortega was standing in a barrow ditch while his vehicle was being serviced.
 
At the same time, 82-year-old Billy Jack Leach of Canyon Lake was driving a 2011 Lincoln MKZ southbound on the highway. Due to unknown reasons, Leach veered off the roadway into the barrow ditch and hit Alvarez-Ortega and the fence.
 
As a result, Alvarez-Ortega suffered grave injuries and died at the scene.
 
Leach was not hurt in the crash.
 
As of now, the case remains under investigation. In addition, no other details are available.
