Richard Vela and Felipe Avila Die in Midland Truck Crash

 
MIDLAND, TX (April 18, 2024) — Two people identified as Richard Vela and Felipe Avila died in a truck accident on Monday, April 8.
 
According to the Midland Police, the accident occurred at about 4:15 p.m. in the 7100 block of North State Highway 349, near the Craddick Highway.
 
Midland Police said a dump truck failed to yield the right of way to a Ford F-350 traveling south on State Highway 349. It resulted in a head-on collision of the two vehicles.
 
When emergency responders arrived, they pronounced two people in the Ford truck dead at the scene. They identified them as 32-year-old Richard Vela and 39-year-old Felipe Avila. They are both residents of Odessa and officers have already notified their next of kin.
 
Meanwhile, paramedics transported a third person to Midland Memorial Hospital.
 
Authorities said the driver of the dump truck identified as a 33-year-old Midlander did not sustain any injuries.
 
The City of Midland said the accident closed multiple roads as crews cleared the road, including cleaning fuel spill.
 
This investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
