Presley Cauthen and Kailei Rhodes Killed, Rubin Villarreal Arrested after Car Crash on FM 565 at East Winfree Avenue

 
MONT BELVIEU, TX (January 22, 2024) — Two teens, Presley Elizabeth Cauthen and Kailei Nicole Rhodes, died in a crash on Tuesday.
 
According to the Mont Belvieu Police Department, the accident took place in the 1700 block of FM 565 North at East Winfree Avenue at about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16.
 
The crash occurred when a 2009 Ford Explorer Sport Trac failed to make a curve in the roadway. Then left the roadway before it hit a utility pole and a tree. The impact ejected one passenger.
 
Two teenagers, 17-year-old Cauthen of Mont Belvieu and 14-year-old Rhodes of Baytown, who were passengers in the vehicle, died at the scene.
 
Mont Belvieu EMS rushed the driver to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston for treatment of injuries. They identified him as 20-year-old Rubin Rene Villarreal from Baytown.
 
After his hospital release, officers arrested Villarreal. They charged him with two counts of Criminally Negligent Homicide with a $250,000 bond each. In addition, he will also face charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon with a $25,000 bond.
 
Investigators also found out that Villareal already has three outstanding felony warrants with no bonds out of Harris County. Officers then booked Villarreal into the Mont Belvieu PD holding facility. After that, they transported him to the Chambers County Jail.
