Woman Dead, Her Daughter Injured after Tacoma Car Accident on 176th Street and Canyon Road

 
TACOMA, WA (January 22, 2024) — A mother died and a daughter was injured in a three-car crash on 176th Street on Wednesday, January 17.
 
According to a release from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened near 176th Street East and Canyon Road at around 5:45 p.m.
 
Officers said a speeding white Subaru ran a red light at the intersection of 70th Avenue East. Following it was a white van that also traveled at a high rate of speed.
 
Deputies said a pickup truck had a green light at the intersection. Then as it made a legal U-turn, it hit the Subaru. The van following the Subaru also collided with the Subaru before it left the scene.
 
The driver of the Subaru described only as a 26-year-old woman sustained injuries. A passenger in her car, her 64-year-old mother, died at the scene.
 
Investigators said the driver of the van called and said he chased his stolen Subaru. Then it collided into the pickup truck. Deputies asked the driver, who faces felony hit-and-run charges, to come back to the scene. However, he didn’t show up.
 
According to investigators, medics rushed the driver of the Subaru to the hospital. She will face possible charges of vehicular homicide.
 
The pickup truck driver, a 41-year-old man, and his 2-year-old child who was in a car seat, were not hurt.
